Dental Implants

Dental implants are most often the best treatment option if you are missing one or more teeth. More than half of adults by age 40 have lost at least one permanent tooth. One quarter of adults by age 74 have lost all of their teeth. Until twenty years ago the alternatives were fixed bridges or removable dentures. Although solving some problems, these created other serious problems for many. Dentures were often slipping and making embarrassing clicking sounds when speaking and eating. The more serious affect was deterioration and bone loss to the teeth adjacent to the missing teeth. As a result these solutions proved temporary, needing replacement in seven to fifteen years. Dental implants are placed in the jawbone itself instead of anchoring to the surrounding teeth or resting on the gums. The titanium implants actually fuse with the bone and never decay. They do not damage surrounding teeth and bone loss is seldom a problem. Rather, the implant can actually preserve the jawbone from the eroding and weakening caused by missing teeth.
